Several relatives of mine whom I occasionally provide technical assistance for are still running XP SP3 on their systems. Those systems are too outdated and underpowered to be upgraded to a newer version of Windows, and it will likely be some time before they are in a position to upgrade to newer hardware capable of running more modern versions of Windows.
If in the meantime, something happens to one of their computers that would require a reinstallation of Windows after support for XP ends, but before they can get a newer computer, I have a couple questions about what would happen:

- Will there still be some way to activate their existing copies of XP during the installation process?
- Although I understand that new patches, updates, & fixes will no longer be provided, will existing patches still be available through the Microsoft Update service so that I would be able to get those computers back to the update state that they would be at the point XP support ends, or will I have to poke around elsewhere to try & find those updates? (It would be nice if Microsoft put together one last cumulative update that would be sort of a mega-patch for people in that situation to be able to get their systems back to the most current status, but I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't any such thing.)
Anyone know the answers to these questions?
