Programs won't open after automatic update.

After an automatic update Word Starter, Excel Starter &amp MS Flight Simulator would not open. Restored to a date prior to AU &amp programs functioned normally. On shutdown AU occurred &amp problem recurred. Four different MS techs informed me &quotthe update can't
be the problem, you must have a virus. For $99 we can fix the problem&quot.
