"Cannot uninstall this device because its descendants refused the request.
This can happen if the device's descendants are required to boot up the computer."
In that thread, that message seems to be tied to the installation of the
RealTek driver. The RealTek driver seems to be preventing the UAA from being
uninstalled. Once the ReakTek driver is removed, then you should be
able to uninstall the UAA. (And logically, the question at this point
would be, "How can a driver which has not successfully installed,
be preventing the uninstall of UAA" comes to mind.)
I tried a test here. I have WinXP SP3 and Realtek HDAudio. It is working
right now. I disabled UAA. I uninstalled UAA. I rebooted. UAA was
automatically discovered and installed again. So that is not very
useful. I found another suggestion here, and instead of rebooting, they
"Scan for hardware changes" as the next step. That scan, enumerates and
detects both the RealTek and the UAA.

Paraphrasing their suggestion (which actually comes from Gigabyte web site) ...
1. Disable UAA.
2. Uninstall UAA but don't reboot.
3. Right click the computer name at the very top of Device Manager,
and select "Scan for hardware changes". (My Device Manager doesn't
have the scan button, so I use the right click instead.)
4. When the "Found New Hardware" wizard appears, click Cancel.
5. Install the RealTek driver package.
This page is an example of the Gigabyte recipe. It has pictures.

At this point, the part that worries me, is your ReakTek driver is not
installed, and yet you're getting the
"Cannot uninstall this device because its descendants refused the request.
This can happen if the device's descendants are required to boot up the computer."
message. And to cure that, the suggestion is to remove the RealTek driver --
which at this point, has not successfully uninstalled.
*******
This is the recipe provided by Asus Tech Support for the RealTek
problem. I don't have an original link for this, and this
is my own paraphrasing of the procedure. I think the original
advice may have been an email from Tech Support.
1)Go in safe mode [ Press F8 when the computer is booting ]
2)Disable the HD audio device under Sound Video Games
controllers, do not uninstall it here!
3)Disable under the system devices "Microsoft UAA bus driver for high
definition audio", do not uninstall it here!
4)Now uninstall the "Microsoft UAA bus driver for high definition audio"
(via this device manager in safe mode), the HD audio device will then
also be uninstalled automatically.
5)Install the latest driver for your motherboard.
By using Safe Mode, it is possible the OS will allow you to
do the uninstall of UAA step.
