I have a computer that is unable to download any file from
download.microsoft.com, i have installed other web browsers and still im
unable to download from microsoft, however i have no problem downloading from
other sites nor do i have any problem accessing microsoft.com website, just
can't download a file from microsoft.com, The unit is a Dell with windows MCE
any ideas and help would be very helpful, thanks

start/run, type:

notepad %windir%/system32/drivers/etc/HOSTS

If there is a line for 'download.microsoft.com', or any site besides
'127.0.0.1 localhost'

you can put the symbol '#' at the start of the line to 'comment out' the
entry.

something may have set the address for you

Which Microsoft page or pages are you having problems with?

Might it be possible that you need to have AvtiveX enabled?

Nass recently posted the following suggestion, and I thought it might
help you:

"Please copy and paste the following into a Notepad and safe as Reg.bat
on your Desktop then double click the Reg.bat to execute it and click
"YES" to register the Required DLLs for the windows updates engine.

regsvr32 Msxml.dll
regsvr32 Msxml2.dll
regsvr32 atl.dll
regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 inetcomm.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wuweb.dll
regsvr32 MSXML3.dll
regsvr32 cryptsvc.dll
regsvr32 dssenh.dll
regsvr32 qmgr.dll
regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 qmgrprxy.dll
regsvr32 wups2.dll
net start wuauserv

you have to add these sites to your Trusted Sites in I.E. or you can
turn off your Windows Firewall or configure any other Third party
firewall you may have.

Tools -> Internet Options -> Security -> Trusted Sites ->
Sites -> Add this Web site to the zone:

http://*.windowsupdate.Microsoft.com
http://download.windowsupdate.com
http://update.Microsoft.com/
https://*.windowsupdate.Microsoft.com
https://windowsupdate.Microsoft.com

You may receive an "Error 0x80072EE2," "Error 0x80072EE7," "Error
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/836941

You may receive an error message when you search for available updates
on the Windows Update Web site or on the Microsoft Update Web site
http://support.Microsoft.com/?kbid=883821 "
