Uninstall the ECP port in Device Manager. Reboot the PC. Check and
change the parallel port config in the BIOS. Save the BIOS changes,
again. It is not enough to just change the settings, you must follow
the "Save BIOS changes" steps for your PC, else the changes will be
"lost." Reboot and XP "should" detect it as EPP.

Thanks, I had already done this. Have contacted manufacturer and updated
BIOS to no avail. I think they are going to send an engineer out.

Was the port "re-detection" done with "administrator" type account?
Limited user account types can not add/remove devices in XP.
