Printers not showing in "Find Printers"

We are in an Active Directory scenario with Win2k domain controllers and 1
2k3 DC. It seems that, at random, when searching for printers in the
directory, you'll see an incomplete list. The printers are accessible if
you hit the print server directly (with an UNC path). We have 10+ sites,
and over a hundred printers, so this feature is very useful to us. What
could be causing printers to not appear in the list?

Are you able to see the print server itself, as well as all of your other
servers and clients, consistantly in your Network Places browse list? Do you
have any errors in your print server and PDC emmulator server event logs?
There is also this MS article I found you could check out..

Did this problem start happening recently? The reason for asking is that we
started to see a similar problem about the middle of June 2007.

I'm not aware of a solution for this, but the people that manage the print
servers in our environment say they have worked around the problem via Group
Polices that:

1. disable printer pruning
2. every hour all queues on the servers that aren't published will be
published.

Sorry, but that's all the information that has been provided to me.

This is a large environment (> 25 print servers and several thousand
printers) and I'm not part of the group that manages the print servers. I
understand that this problem was reported to Microsoft PSS, but since I'm
not part of the group that manages the print servers I don't know what, if
anything, came of that.

It is perfectly useless to know the right answer to the wrong question.
