I have tried to install a printer driver for a samsung clp 300. When the
CD starts to load after about 30 seconds the screen goes black and xp
continually reboots. The only way I can get back into xp is to do a
system restore. I have tried various different options to load the
driver but it always ends up doing the reboot cycle.Any advice
greatfully received

Turn off Autorun and copy the contents of the CD to its own folder in
the hard drive. Install from the hard drive by running setup.exe (or
its equivalent) from this folder. If the computer still goes into a
non-responsive state, then the installation programming or programs
is/are faulty. Contact Samsung.

Hi Ghostrider,

Cracked it, had to go into Administration, Services, RPC Locater, turn
on Automatic start, reboot, driver loaded without a problem. When loaded
went back and set RPC Locator back to Start. haven't got to the bottom
of why I had to do this but it works. Anybody out there got any answers??

Regards
Chris

Interesting and very curious outcome. One explanation why RPC might need
to be started is that the printer driver file execution routine requires
the host computer (your's) to communicate with the remote fie server, in
order to build a driver specific for the computer.
