the printers will all disapear for no reason, arfter a reboot they come back,
but the print spooler service gets 'stuck' in 'starting' and does not start.

since the spooler seems toprovide access to the printers I can't
print, either local or on a dedicated print server printer.

"Printer properties cannot be displayed. The print spooler service is not
running"

Is there a way to fix this?

followup - it looks like theservice is repeatedly restarting
if I happen to print during the time its up everything is fine.

how can I keep the service from crashing/restarting?

take a look at this.
seems you will have to uninstall and reinstall the printers
although the error message is diff. from your issue but this fixes almost
every scenario related to printer issues and print spooler service.

anything that might fix it without reinstall is worth the attempt :)
I'll delete abnd redefine all the printers.

You think that registry entries for the printers/spooler is corrupt
and the spooler service keeps crashing and restarting
due to not finding 'reasonable' data in its registry keys?

deleting and reinstalling should repair that.

thanks

no you can always delete the printers without the spooler service
if you are getting some kind of message while deleting printers post it here
and you can also try to go in safe mode and then try to remove the
printer.....
