Just recently acquired, P4@3.6Mhz, 2.0G Ram, if I open too many apps system
locks up/freezes. combination key stroke don't work, have to hold power
button to re-boot. checked all components to make sure nothing was lose,
everything checked okay. Did system check, got no errors, no log of lock
up/freeze.

Any suggestions/advise?

What type of Applications by name, and how many (3,4,5 ....).

actually, i just had another lock up and it was just using internet explorer
alone. I did have my task manager open and was watching performance. It was
using all of the cpu.

previous lockup, was using these...
1. internet explorer
2. windows live mail
3. task manager
4. napster

It appears I don't have to have lot open for it to freeze up.

Look again with Process Explorer instead of Task Manager.

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/utilities/processexplorer.mspx

This should give you a better idea of what exactly is using the cycles.

Thanks for the input guys! I found out that is was Internet Explorer 7 Beta
2. It did not install correctly and screwed up my registry.

The fix/uninstall from microsoft didn't work, had to fix registry and
re-install IE7. Haven't had a lockup/freeze since. What a pain! hahaha
have a good one!!
