Prblem with wireless laser 6000 keyboard

Roman King

I installed Microsoft Wireless Laser 6000 v.2 keyboard and mouse set.
The set is great. Here is a problem. With this keyboard, "Delete" or
"F12" key doe not work during booting.
So I am unable to change boot sequence. Please advise me how to go around
this problem. Roman

You ask in a group that deals with that issue. You are talking about
BIOS level issues, and at that point XP isn't running meaning your
question is out of place.

It is the Windows.hardware group, and it is a Microsoft H/W product the OP
is asking about - this is as good a group as any.

Two issues that I can think of may cause this problem:

1) The key to enter the BIOS may not necessarily be DEL or F12 on your
specific computer (although these are the "popular" ones, you should check
the manual for your computer and make sure the key you're pressing is the
correct one. If you see that F12/DEL (which ever of the two) is the right
key, then maybe option (2) below is the problem.

2) The fact it is a cordless keyboard - it may not work outside of Windows.
i.e. trying to get into the BIOS is something you do before Windows starts
loading......the keyboard probably needs specific drivers to run and may
only work in Windows.

Try a corded keyboard, and see if DEL or F12 enter the bios, if they don't
then you know for sure that DEL or F12 are *not* the key to use.

Did DEL or F12 work with your previous keyboard(s) (whether wireless or
corded)?

Also possible might be to enable legacy support in BIOS as it governs the
functionality of USB-attached mouses/keyboards
(use a PS/2 keyboard to get there)

Well I just purchased a Wireless Laser 6000 v.2 to replace a Wireless Laser
6000 v.1.0A. The mouse is working perfect but the keyboard will not work at
all. With the previous version of the 6000 (1.0A) the puck gave you the
option of using USB or directly your keyboard and mouse ports. Version 2.0
does not do that. To access the BIOS under version 1.0A I had to connect
the puck directly to the keyboard and mouse ports. Unfortunately the
version 2.0 puck does not give us that option. You are going to have to use
a keyboard that allows you to connect directly to the keyboard port. Now I
have to find somebody that may be able to help me debug why my version 2.0
keyboard will not work.

I have the MS Wireless Laser mouse and keyboard 5000 combo. I noticed that
NONE of the Function keys worked as I expected until I turned ON the
F-Lock button. I sometimes use Alt-F4 to close an application or F7 to do
spellchecker in MS Word and none of that works unless the F-Lock button has
been pushed. Maybe your setup is similar. Unfortunately, there is no
light on my keyboard to help me keep track of it. When I push the button,
it gives me a momentary message on the screen telling me F-Lock is On or
Off.

You'd be much more help if you suggested a newsgroup for him to try,
instead of complaining not once but twice.
