Hey - would be most grateful if someone on this Board could be good enough to
help me with the following problem. When I click on File and try to send a
webb page or link via e-mail it fails and I get the following error message
from Microsoft:

""The host 'POP3' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered
the server name correctly. Account: 'POP3', Server: 'POP3', Protocol: SMTP,
Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D""

So what can one do to correct this problem? I use Windows XP Home Edition
and basicly a novice when it comes to working on computers. I've already
spent a lot of time trying to correct this problem myself but of course
without success, so now I turn here. Thanks....

POP3 is not a legitimate mail server name. There needs to be more to it.
You need to contact your ISP/Host or read their help pages for the correct
POP3 and SMTP server information to put in your account.

It appears your Outgoing Mail (SMTP) is configured wrong.
From the error it shows you have: Server: 'POP3'
It should be set to your ISP's configuration setting instructions.

Example of Comcast settings would be:
Incoming mail (POP3) -- mail.comcast.net
Outgoing mail (SMTP) -- smtp.comcast.net

Each ISP may/does use different settings and may/wil not be the same as the
example.

Check your ISP's support pages for the proper settings for the email application
you use.

Does it give you the same error when you send a plain email without a link or Web page in it.?

Error Number: 0x800CCC0D usually signifies that you are scanning your incoming and outgoing emails with your Anti Virus

Disable your AV email scanning for incoming and outgoing emails. You will still be protected with your resident AV

If on the other hand you get the same error as you have posted when using email without any attachments like a link or web page the I have to agree with Tom and Brian that your pop server is not correctly listed. Call your ISP and get their correct SMTP server address.

Re: Relly appreciate it Brian, Tom and Peter!

You're quite welcome, glad to help. Was the cause of the wrong smtp server related
to email av scans or human fingers doing their own thing error?
