My son used my computer a while back (XP PRO). He must have deleted the
Windows XP default pictures (the pictures that come with XP) and I want them
back, how do I do that. He must have cleared the recycle bin as well, because
I checked there.

Is there any way that I can get them back?

Which pictures? The ones in My Pictures? Ones that are used for Desktop
backgrounds? Or something else?

There are four:
Blue hills.jpg
Sunset.jpg
Water lilies.jpg
Winter.jpg

First, search for a file named winter.jp_ (last character is an underscore),
probably in a folder named i386. If no luck, is your XP Pro installation
disk a retail disk, or a generic OEM, not some Restore disk or partition? It
should have an i386 folder. If you can locate the files (each one has a last
character _ instead of G), extract them using the EXPAND command. Calling
the CD drive X:\, and assuming as normal installation disk, here's the
command for the Winter.jpg file:

expand -r x:\i386\winter.jp_ "C:\Documents and Settings\All
Users\Documents\My Pictures\Sample Pictures"

Careful of the spaces in that command. Change the path to i386 folder as
necessary.
