Over the past three months I've started to notice that we are getting the
above event ID logged on our Windows 2000 Server. There have only been a
handful of errors but I like to know what everything is and what everything
means in my event logs! I've searched the internet and can only find
something which suggests changing a registry value for the timeout, but I
don't know which registry value.

Wonder if someone could point me in the direction for troubleshooting, or if
indeed I just need to increase this timeout figure, where it is in the
registry?

Detailed event below:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
The timeout waiting for the performance data collection function "PerfProc"
in the "C:\WINNT\system32\perfproc.dll" Library to finish has expired. There
may be a problem with this extensible counter or the service it is
collecting data from or the system may have been very busy when this call
was attempted.

Hello Ripley,

Please post the complete event log entry. Just click the 2 paper button in
the right corner and paste to the posting, then the complete entry will be
posted here.
Is it only after reboot?

Meinolf,

Thanks for your reply. Sorry, here is the complete error:

Event Source: Perflib
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1015
Date: 06/05/2008
Time: 17:14:59
User: N/A
Computer: LAMINA
Description:
The timeout waiting for the performance data collection function "PerfProc"
in the "C:\WINNT\system32\perfproc.dll" Library to finish has expired. There
may be a problem with this extensible counter or the service it is
collecting data from or the system may have been very busy when this call
was attempted.

To answer your question about whether it only happens after reboots, I'm not
sure to be honest. There have been about 4 errors over the past 3 weeks and
the server has been rebooted a few times during that time.

Thanks.
