Windows NT per device and per user license can exist same time?

Hi,
I've win 2k3 r2 sp2 installed.
It is a license server and a terminal server (i've a little network).
I've bought 5 license per DEVICE by mistake, i need for user instead.
Now, consider that I need to buy other licenses, could I buy ts USER cal?
Could a single terminal server handle in same time license per user and per
device?

No, it can't.
A Licensing Server can handle both types, but a single Terminal
Server can only be in Per User licensing mode *or* Per Device
licensing mode, not both at the same time.

The best you can do is to phone the Clearinghouse and explain that
you made a mistake.
Usually, they are rather cooperative and change your licenses into
the other type (although you cannot *demand* it if you do not have
Software Assurance on your existing licenses).

I've not SA, so no way, I shoulda keep these licenses, not a big problem.
But now, 'cause of my mystake, my terminal server is configured (properly)
per device.
I can see it in terminal services configuration\ server settings, but in
terminal server licensing I see:
-"win server 2003 - terminal server per user CAL" , type "open", quantity 5,
issued "not applicable" and
-"terminal server per device cal token", type "temporary".
How could I remove this last group and assign license to device?

and.. another question.. on this domain controller I've bought cal "per
server" connection, required for the local XP clients.
Terminal services configuration and domain controller license configuration
are 2 separate and independent things?
If I would like add terminal servers users (i mean people that never login
locally to DC because they're remote users) should I buy CAL + TSCAL or only
TSCAL?

If that's what you see in TS Licensing Manager, then you have *not*
by mistake bought Per Device TS CALs, you have bought Per User TS
CALs.

The only thing that's wrong is the licensing mode of your Terminal
Server, you need to set that to Per User.

Note that Per user licenses are currently unmanaged, so you will
never see the "Issued" count change from N/A.

Terminal Server users need both a server CAL and a TS CAL.
The server CAL is needed for every user who authenticates, uses file
or print services, etc.

yes, but this "per user" license *are* my mistake.
I should remove these licenses, because I haven't none, but I'm not able to
do, and I should add the "per device" licenses.
Terminal service is, now, configure correctly as "per device" and should
leave like this.

Then you absolutely need to contact the Clearinghouse.

Note that with your current settings (TS in Per Device licensing
mode, but Per User licenses installed), your clients will be unable
to connect as soon as their temporary licenses expire.
So check the expiration dates on those temporary licenses to see
how much time you have left to fix this.

I've noticed that after few days of *blackout", connecting to the server
with the banned client results in a new license issued to the same client.
So in the list of temporary license I can see more than once the same pc.
I've contacted the clearing house and they tell me that is a configuration
problem and call the support.
the support should be payed...
So I will try again with the clearing house.
I could try to say them that my clients are non-existant because are
dismissed and I need to recover the license.
First time I told the truth, but were not a good strategy...

Well, you definitively have a configuration problem, and it's going
to come back again and again and again if you don't fix it
permanently.
And yes, support costs money. It's a strange world, isn't it....
