password on HP pavilion home pc wont let me start up pc how can i delete the owner password it ask f

i bought a pc at a garage sale ,and the guy gave me a password ,but it doesnt work what can i do the password on HP pavilion windows xp home edition and it wont let me start up pc how can i delete the owner password it ask for to log in to windows ? is there
a jumper to delete the old one ?
