I have an error message - "Enter network password" for the smtp server. A) I
dont' have a network. B) this is a new message C) I went into the control
panel - User account and set up a passwork on SMTP - it was accepted, but
still, I get the pop up. I've been on Microsoft online help, and help and
support on my computer. I can't figure this out. Anyone help?

You do - any time you connect to the Internet

Usually caused by either your mail server being down or trying to send email
through your ISPs smtp server while connected to another ISP.

Interesting. Would you care to tell us WHERE in the "User Account" function
the smtp server exists?

The error refers to the username and password you use to get onto the
Internet and/or to get your email. It has nothing to do with the User
Accounts applet in Control Panel. Look through your ISP-related
documentation or contact your ISP. They will be able to tell you your
user name and assign you a new password.

Your ISP will also have instructions on their website for setting up
Outlook with their service. Go and look at them.

Outlook Express and Outlook interface with a SMTP server the same way. Both
have connection options which also include a password, and, saving that
password.

If the password requirement is new, you need to contact support at your ISP
for that password if you don't know it. Which, I assume, is providing your
email service.
