Outlook Express (WXP) will not post new messages

After I returned the menu bar to Firefox and posted in my
previous thread, this happened:

- OE mail alert sounded, OE icon appeared in System Tray.
- But no new message in Outlook Express!
- Tools < Send & Receive All produced alert with black bar
running across it and indicated no new messages.

- Verizon Email Box showed new message.
- Opened new message in Verizon Email Box.
- OE icon did not, will not leave System Tray.

- Sent another test message via OE; same scenario listed
above.

Any suggestions? I'm so used to OE, I would dread having
to abandon it and use Verizon Mail Box, but at least I'd still
get the OE new-message sound alert.

P.S. I did close and reopen OE, and restarted computer;
no change.

Have you checked to see if the account is still included when receiving mail or synchronizing, Lina?

Tools > Accounts > (mommalina) > General tab

Verify this option is checked: Include this account when receiving mail or synchronizing.

If that setting is correct, check your incoming and outgoing settings for Verizon.

Incoming mail server (POP3): pop.verizon.net
Incoming Server Port Numbers: 995
Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.verizon.net
Outgoing Server Port Numbers: 465

Make sure SSL encryption is enabled for the incoming and outgoing mail server.

Cindy, when I go to OE, Tools, Accounts, it does not offer
(mommalina), General Tab, as you posted.

It takes me to Internet Accounts (All/Mail/News/Directory
Service)
and opens to Mail (Account/Type/Connection),
and lists:

incoming verizon net / mail (default) / Any Available.

Cindy, if you can, please:

:help:

I'm sorry, Lina.

I knew it was the General tab but it's been so long that I forgot how to get there.
I had to go find some screen shots. lol

It's OE > Tools > Accounts > Mail.
On the right hand side, select Properties.
The General tab will be in the new window.

The Incoming and Outgoing settings will be under the Server tab.

Incoming mail server (POP3): pop.verizon.net
Incoming Server Port Numbers: 995
Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.verizon.net
Outgoing Server Port Numbers: 465

Cindy, all lines up until I get here (last picture):

"The Incoming and Outgoing settings will be under the Server tab.

Incoming mail server (POP3): pop.verizon.net
Incoming Server Port Numbers: 995
Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.verizon.net
Outgoing Server Port Numbers: 465"

There are no "Incoming Server Port Numbers"
or Outgoing Port Numbers" where I could insert
995 / 465. I know I have seen that before, but
it's not here.

I don't believe a System Restore affects Outlook
Express, right?

Cindy, I'm so sorry to have taken up so much of your time and
efforts! Enough!
Thanks so much; my deepest apologies. You are an :kinky:
whose technical skills are most likely better used and needed by
others.

Tried to get to Verizon online Agent, but they are too busy. Will
try again tomorrow (or when my head clears enough).

Changing the POP3 and SMPT numbers did not work. Stopped
getting test mails on the server, nothing in OE.

I can't find (or understand) the SSL Encryption

I changed to the "default" settings and am back to Square One,
but at least I can send mail via OE and receive mail on the Verizon
server (with sound alert to Outlook Express).

Bless you ♥

Don't give up, Lina. I'm not. It's probably something very simple.
We'll figure it out.

I didn't realize that you could send but not receive through Outlook Express..
That means that there is definitely something wrong with the outgoing settings.

On the Server tab, where it says "My server requires authentication" there
is a tab next to it that says Settings. Check for SSL encryption there.

Outgoing Mail Server, My server requires authentication,
Settings, takes me to:

Outgoing Mail Server, Log on Information:

(checked) -------Use same settings as my Incoming Mail Server
(Unchecked)---- Log on using

Nothing else on that page I can explore for SSL encryption

The SSL settings are under the Advanced tab, Lina.

Also, saving messages on the server can cause your mailbox to become full quickly, and Verizon has a limit on how many emails you can save before you need to delete some. You might not be able to receive messages until you delete the server copies.

See screenshot, yeah, another one....lol

I deleted all but 2 inbox messages, and all of those in the Trash
box on the Verizon server. I then restarted. Sent a test message
from Outlook Express, and it arrived in Verizon server inbox;
nothing in OE inbox. Looks like same scenario.

On Delivery, Advanced page, the following were checked:

- Leave a copy of message on Server, and
- Remove from Server when deleted from "Deleted Item."

I unchecked Remove from Server when deleted from "Deleted
item," and configured it to Remove from Server after 15 days.

Whatever I did sent all messages I had deleted from the server
(back to 2012) to the Outlook Express Box. When I clicked the
first unopened message, the OE icon in the system tray
disappeared.

I'm going to delete all messages to July 2015 that are in the
OE inbox, restart, and send another OE message.

BINGO! I have a born-again Outlook
Express .. :jumpimg:

I suspect this cured what ailed it:

"I unchecked Remove from Server when deleted from "Deleted
item," and configured it to Remove from Server after 15 days."

Thanks a bunch, Cindy .. :bunny:
