Forgot to tell that I don't have a fax, nor a fax option, nor anything
related with fax. I have been using the notebook without any problems
until now with this fax issue.

What new software did you install before the problem first started?

Remove them one at a time until the problem goes away.

Start with Norton (and probably end there).

Check also "Printers & Faxes" screen. Is there fax device there? If so,
delete it.

Skype seems to be the one you should investigate:

There would appear to be a number of possible reasons for your error.

Is there an Error Report in Event Viewer?

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer.

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.
