Out of Sync Video

I have downloaded several HDTV XviD files and to varying degrees I have a
terrible sound/picture synchronisation. It starts out poor and worsens over
time to the point that the movie becomes unwatchable. I am playing these
files through Windows Media Player 11.x. Playing through Nero Showtime shows
an even worse synchronisation problem. CPU usage hovers between 50-60 %. My
system is WinXPPro SR2.

Is there anything I can do to?

Try every other media player such as Quicktime, RealPlayer or Videolan VLC :
http://www.videolan.org/ . You can also crosspost to :
microsoft.windows.public.multimedia.windows.mediaplayer. Your computer's
video processing ability may be inadequate for high-def video.

Thanks Allan.

I downloaded the VLC Media Player and it plays the files perfectly in
synchronisation!

Do you think the problem reported is a computer resource issue or a
limitation with WMP? I have a 2 GHz CPU and 1.5 GB RAM.

It's a codec issue. To find out what codecs are used for a video file type
use Gspot.
http://www.headbands.com/gspot/
As you have discovered VLC Player plays most video file types.

The one thing I can tell you about doing anything with HD video under XP is
that a minimum of 1 GB of RAM is definitely required. 2GB is better.
