Opening *.SMI files with Media Player

At this time Real Player recognizes SMI (aka SMIL, Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language) files and plays them. I would prefer to use Windows Media Player. I have the latest media player installed. Is it possible to configure media player to recognize SMI files?
