On start up, I receive the following error message: Generic Host Process for Win32 Services Error

I received the following error message: Generic Host Process for Win32 Services Error, on start up. Have read Help Forums. I have Windows XP Auto Updates and all Service Packs. Plus Norton AntiV and Utilities. What can I do being that I am all updated and
have Norton? Will the Windows KB-894391 fix interfere with anything even if I already have it? Should I run Windows Essentials?
