Old Computer reinstalled XP Can't connect to internet. Cant find iexplore

I have an old computer. I reinstalled Windows XP on it about 30 days ago. I cant get it to connect to the internet. I bought the computer 2nd hand and bought my own version of XP directly from Microsoft. I am unable to activate it. I can't even find iexplore. Any suggestions? I installed a driver for the ethernet card and still nothing.
