Windows NT Office 2007 licensing problems with terminal server

I have been trying to install office 2007 on a win2k3 server for quite a
while with no luck.
With the MSDN I’m getting the Office Ultimate edition, and after installing
when trying to use anything out of it I’m getting the weird message of “this
copy of Microsoft office word cannot be used on terminal serverâ€. Microsoft
support site says that i need to uninstalled and then re-install with a
volume license key. So I uninstalled and obtained a volume license key from
the MSDN, but now the installation programs tells me that the key is wrong,
and refuses to install. How can I get over these licensing issues??

You'd probably better ask your local Microsoft representative, but
this is how I understand it:
MSDN subscriptions are single-user licensed and are for
development, testing and evaluation only. The downloadable media is
the full retail version, according to the FAQ below. And the retail
version cannot be installed on a TS, as per:

924622 - Error message when you try to start a 2007 Office program
within a Terminal Server client session: "This copy of Microsoft
Office cannot be used on Terminal Server"

If you have a Volume Licensing Agreement, I think that you should
use the media and volume license key which came with your volume
license program.

Thanks for your comprehensive response Vera, however I am still not sure how
to resolve the problem. I do have volume licenses keys being an MSDN
enterprise subscriber, but the media I was given does not support theses
keys. MSDN subscribers receive the media via DVD shipments, and the keys are
supplied online. The office 2007 software I received accepts only the desktop
license keys and rejects the volume ones. It looks like there is a mismatch
between the media and the licensing which causes the dead-lock: The software
accepts only the desktop license, but after installation it does not allow me
to run it and claims it needs a different license.

OK, I understand the problem, seems to me that you need other
media. I don't believe that there is a "technical" solution to your
problem, like a reghack, commandline switch or something like that.

I think that the only way to solve it is to contact your Microsoft
representative. Doesn't MSDN subscriptions come with a support
contact address, like TechNet subscriptions? I'd try that first.

You are correct. You need both a volume license key *and*
matching VL media. Check the Enterprise version that comes
with MSDN, it is a VL version. You can download it through
subscriber downloads, the file name is:

en_office_enterprise_2007_DVD_VL_X12-19574.iso

Notice the VL in the file name. The Pro and Ultimate versions
don't have VL in their file name.

I've downloaded and installed the software you mentioned, and now it works
fine with the keys.
