I recently installed a NVidia GeForce 4 MX 4000 video card and now my monitor is shutting off by itself (it won't turn back on) every 10 minutes or so. The monitor i use is a hp pavilion mx50, was just wondering if that was the problem. If not, could somebody please tell me what is going on? My brother just brought it to my attention that the monitor would sometimes freeze up on him as well.

Would also like to add that i just updated the driver and the problem is still there, any help would be appreciated.

Have some new info to add. It is possible that this problem is only arrising while playing the game Guild Wars.

Does rebooting the machine result in the display being restored? When the blackness occurs, are there any changes in the audio output (ie, does it stop, make funny noises, etc)? If you're getting blackness during intensive 3D stuff, it may be a graphics card/processor cooling issue. Are there any other intensive 3D programs that you use regularly that don't experience any issues? I'd recommend 3DMark, or tech demos from nVidia if you don't have anything else to test with.

It came to mind that the problems only occurred after i installed a Sound Blaster card. Could this actually be the problem? If so, how can i fix it :/

Where did you install the SB relative to the AGP port? If its in the adjacent slot, you may have disrupted airflow to the card, causing heat problems. Did you try other 3D intensive stuff to see if its a general 3D issue or if its just a problem with Guildwars specifically.
