NTFS directory security changed

Twice on my system I have had the default security of root C: and thus all
subdirectories under it, change to Everyone - Full Control. I noticed the
change after some programs began acting strangely. I then reset the root to
the default security back and propagated it through all the subdirectories.

All seems to be ok again, but this is the second time and I know I didn't go
into the drive properties and change the drive security permissions.

I have scanned my system with both AV and spyware scanners, but have come up
empty. Does anyone have any ideas what could cause this to happen?

I am running XP Pro SP2 with all updates applied, running on a 2003 Server
domain. I have AV protection on the system as well as being behind a
corporate firewall.

Thanks
