In the previous blog Govern your business applications data with Microsoft Purview, we announced the private preview for the integration between Microsoft Purview and Microsoft Dataverse. With the integration organizations can enable automated data discovery and sensitive data classification by scanning their Dataverse environments, and better understand and govern their data estate from Microsoft Dynamics 365 and Microsoft Power Platforms. Today we are excited to announce that integration is launching to public preview. You can now start to scan your Dataverse environments and enrich your Microsoft Purview Data Map. The integration is only available for the enterprise version of Microsoft Purview.
Source registration and scan
You can find a new source type named “Dataverse” in Microsoft Purview Data Map to register your Dataverse environment. With the new source type, data source administrators can register an individual Dataverse environment and set up scans.
There are two types of authentication methods supported to scan your Dataverse environment:
You can scope your scan by filtering out only the Dataverse table assets needed either by manually selection or using name pattern match.
Data classification
Automatic data classification is supported with the integration that you can classify Dataverse data assets by scanning your Dataverse environment. This will help you to better understand and govern your data by implementing measures to protect sensitive or important data from unauthorized access to the business application data estate. You can directly leverage 200+ built-in system classifications to easily identify sensitive information from your Dataverse tables, and also you can create custom classifications to classify data based on your organization needs.
Discover and manage data assets
After the scan is completed, you can start to explore your Dataverse data assets in Microsoft Purview Data Catalog and govern your data with the rich capabilities provided by Microsoft Purview.

There are two types of authentication methods supported to scan your Dataverse environment:
- System-assigned managed identity (SAMI). This is an identity that's associated directly with your Microsoft Purview account. The SAMI is created when your Microsoft Purview resource is created. It's managed by Azure and uses your Microsoft Purview account's name.
- Service principal. A service principal is an application that can be assigned permissions like any other group or user, without being associated directly with a person.
You can scope your scan by filtering out only the Dataverse table assets needed either by manually selection or using name pattern match.
