Hi All,
I am not able to shut down PC having windows xp operating system. This
happens only when i connect internet by dial up connection and do some
surfing. Then only way out i have is to reboot machine by pressing reset
button. If i dont connect internet then i am able to easily shut down PC.
Any ideas/insights would be highly appreciated.

The obvious first question is do you disconnect your dial-up
connection before attempting to shutdown? If you don't then
try that.
If you do disconnect before attempting to shut down, what
exactly happens when it fails to shut down? Any error messages?

What does MCP and MCTS stand for?

MCP = Microsoft Certified Professional
MCTS = Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist

Obviously this joker simply read some brain scans or books to pass the
tests so his certifications are bogus. That is why these certs have
become worthless to employers unless there is actual history of
experience to back them up.

Hi,
Yes the problem occurs when i try to disconnect. At that time dialog box for
disconnecting simply hangs.(Not Responding). After that i am not able to shut
down PC.When i try to shut down machine it does not proceed further than
"Saving your settings" screen. Also this problem is not consistent.Sometimes
it occurs.Sometimes not.Only option i have at that tme is to reboot the
machine.
Any help would be highly appreciated.

There is obviously a conflict going on that is related to your dial-up,
it could be software or hardware? So first check device manager
for any problems with modem and update drivers.
