Hello

I was having some problems with my OS and installed it again, in another
hard drive partition, Now I had two XP installation showing during boot up, I
was able to remove the option to boot the old XP installation ,but I also
want to format that part of hard drive( where XP was initially installed).
Which i am not able to., it just formats but at end says "could not format
the drive"

The option to format that drive is not avvailable( not showing format
option) in disk management.

I wanted to do the new installtion of XP on same drive, but it was not
allowing it that way.

I tried manually emptying the drive, but I am not able to remove some dll
files.
i even tried with resvr32 ..but in vain.

How canI clear my drive where XP was installed previously.

Thank You

If the drive you want to format is the primary partition...
that's right ...you cannot format it.

However you can delete the old windows folder...
and basically anything else but you need to leave the root directory alone

You can use the sledge hammer approach:
- Boot the machine with a Win98 boot disk from www.bootdisk.com.
- Run delpart.exe from http://www.russelltexas.com/delpart.htm.
Warning: delpart will do exactly what you tell it to. If you
delete the wrong partition then it's gone. Finished.
