I run Windows XP Home Edition on a PC & Laptop.

Can anyone tell me why norton antivirus 2007 disables the security center
service

because when i uninstall norton antivirus the security center works
perfectly.

Please help.

When you installed NAV, you accepted the prompt to make the Norton Security
Center the default, overriding Windows Security Center. To avoid this when
reinstalling, uncheck that option or opt to do a Custom install.

*If NAV is still uninstalled, I would strongly recommend running the Norton
Removal Tool before reinstalling:*

Because Symantec knows so much more about how they want things to operate
than Microsoft.

NAV didn't show a prompt to make Norton Security Center the default.

Then reinstall NAV (after running the removal tool) and select a Custom
Install. Otherwise, see http://www.symantec.com/support/index.jsp for
support.

So they actually _design_ their own bluescreens then, instead of using the
API-generated ones? <g>

Seriously, would be better to ditch Norton, it's a poor product at best.

I've tried everything you suggested. And I looked on symantec's website but
they didn't offer a solution.

So I've turned the firewall and automatic updates on manually.

Thanks for all your help

Open NAV2007. On the norton protection center window above Basic PC Security
click OPTIONS.

On the Norton Protection Center Options window select General Settings

Under Windows Security Center alert settings check the box. Show messages
from Windows Security Center. Click ok.

Close NAV

Then open Security Center it should be working as normal.

Hope This was helpful
