Windows 2003 No system restore on a server?

Can I do a system restore on a Win 2003 R2 server? I'm guessing the answer
is no... and... If not, is there a way to a Windows "fix" like you can
with XP?

I'm getting some ethernet controller errors, that I'm hoping to able to fix
quickly and easily. If both the above answers are no - I'll do some more
research...

Cindy,

There is no "System Restore" on Windows servers, especially as domain
controllers, because Active Directory would be screwed up three ways
from Sunday if you could arbitrarily restore older versions. There've
been plenty of times where I wished for this feature, but in the end,
I think it's for the best.

As for controller errors, have you tried updating the drivers/checking
physical connectivity? What kind of errors are you seeing?

I have successfully implemented my home-grown version of
System Restore on some SBS2003. It goes like this:
- Use the Task Scheduler to back up the registry once
each week.
- Keep the two most recent versions of the backup files.
- When a restore is required, boot the machine with a Bart
PE boot CD.
- Manually save the current registry files, then put the saved
versions in their place.

So far I have not observed any ill effects with respect to AD.
 
Thanks for both those replies... since I haven't done any registry backups,
the homegrown restore won't help this time, but once I'm running clean again,
I may just set those reg backups for that purpose in the future.

I'm actually getting "Found New Hardware" messages for 2 Ethernet
controllers?? When I try to update drivers from IE or CD - it cannot find
anything...
The network adapters are OK. It's a HP new server with 2003 R-2 Standard.
The HP MAngement console doesn't show any hardware problems , but device
manager shows "Other devices" - 2 Ethernet controllers - both appear as Not
working. I've tried updating drivers, also uninstalled them and rebooted the
server and it comes up with the found new hardware again.
IE works fine - I can also remote to the server, so the network works. This
is a server I'm in the process of setting up to replace our current Primary
DC - I was just ready to promote it to a DC status and start the AD
replication. I don't want to format, but also don't want to have problems
once it assumes the role of primary DC.
Any suggestions? thanks for your time and help!!
