I have an eMachine with winxp home. I scrubbed and reformatted my computer
due to a virus, everything worked fine until I clicked to install service
pack 2. Now I have no audio and the device manager says no audio device. (I
cannot uninstall sp2 as I have MS Office 2007 and it requires sp2).
I have deleted the driver, got new driver from eMachine site. Upgraded
driver, deleted and upgraded several times, the machine recognizes the audio
device on reboot, but still when I check the audio there is never an audio
device showing. As I said, this happened when I installed sp2, after
reformat sound was working fine till then.
How do I get my sound back? I have tried everything on all the xp general
posts to no avail. I teach classes online and have been having to use my
laptop (which is a dinosaur, and not extremely stable) to teach with.
I really don't know how to install a sound card...is it very hard to do? I
have also read posts where installing a new sound card didn't help either.
So what do you think?
