New XP install does not recognize RAID drives

I've been reading newsgroups and forums for days and can't get past
this.

Brand new Asus P5K-E MB.
2 x 500 gb sata drives.

config'd bios to raid and created a new volume through raid config.

created slipstreamed XP sp2 CD (although I've tried the orig too).

XP setup WILL NOT recognize this volume. I've tried F6 the drivers
(ICH8R / ICH-9R) and nothing works. It can't see a storage device
and I get booted out.

has anyone run into this?

thanks,
Patrick

Well if you cant F6 the driver, then its a straight hardware issue, either
bad hardware or a config issue.

Try breaking the RAID set and seeing if that works.

the only thing I can think of is related to the intel ROM version, shown
on the screen when you go into the Cntrl-I setup. The ROM version must be
compatable w/ the ICH8 driver version you are using (the Intel Matrix
Manager). Go to intel's IMM site and read up. To upgrade the ROM version
you simply install a new BIOS (the intel rom is a part of the bios).

Also, did you put the ICH8 into "Enhanced Mode", via the bios? It should
be.

thanks for the help. I'll have a look at IMM specs. I downloaded the
latest bios (latest released bios, not the beta which is also
available) and the latest ICH9 drivers, but I get an "unexpected
error" when loading the .sys file (F6 during XP setup).

Enhanced mode is only available in non-raid configs.

thanks again

Change the jumpers on the drives to SATA 1, The ASUS P5K has major
problems with some drives in SATA 2 mode.
