Hello agian...

On the new PC (XP Pro SP2)...on bootup...a halpful caption pops up adjacent
to the Start Button explaining what it does. I already know what the heck
it does. Also: same deal in the SysTray...when I connect to the internet, a
caption pops up there telling me my connection speed. Already know what
that is, as well.

Any way these things can be disabled?

Thanks

There's no one place to turn off all of the tooltips. In Windows, use
Folder Options> View. Uncheck "show file size information in folder
tips" and "show popup descriptions for folder and desktop items."

Many applications have settings within their preferences/options menus
that control the display of tooltips within that program.

A Google Groups search netted the above by:

Here's a tip by Bert Kinney MS-MVP Shell/User:

How to remove Balloon Tips:
The balloon tips can be disabled using Tweakui. Install Tweakui and go
to Task - Start menu, then uncheck “Enable balloon tips”.
Or here’s a script to Disable Balloon Tips
