Hi,
I recently went from Windows 98SE to Windows XP Pro, but now the resolution
is sooo low I am getting a error message to change it but I can't. The
display properties are showing it at 640x480 and it can't be changed. The
color quality is low 8 bits and it can't be changed. Also, all the icons
that were there with 98SE seem to have disappeared. Can anyone help?
Frank

When you went from 98SE to XP Pro did you download all the
XP drivers (video, audio, nic, motherboard, etc.) for your
machine? The 98 video drivers are probably not compatible
with XP because on installation XP could not find compatible
drivers for your video card on the CD, and you are currently
using Windows default video drivers.

Go to your computer manufacturer's web site, download all
the drivers for XP for your machine and install them or use
them to update the current drivers. You should notice and
improvement and be able to change the resolution and color
bit level to something better.

After you install an operating system, you must then install drivers for
all your hardware. This includes your motherboard, video card (which is
why you have ugly graphics right now), audio, network, etc.

Never get drivers from Windows Update. Get them from:

1. The device mftr.'s website OR
2. The motherboard mftr.'s website if hardware is onboard OR
3. The OEM's website for your specific machine if you have an OEM
computer (HP, Dell, Sony, etc.).

Read the installation instructions on the website where you get the drivers.

To find out what hardware is in your computer:

1. Read any documentation you got when you bought the computer.
2. If the computer is OEM, go to the OEM's website for your specific
model machine and look at the specs (you'll be there to get the drivers
anyway)
3. Download, install and run a free system inventory program like Belarc
Advisor or System Information for Windows.

I don't know what "all the icons that were there with 98SE" means.
Please rephrase the question.
