Network printer will only print if set as "default" printer

've got 5 computers on a network. There's no server, I just used the
standard XP home/small office networking setup. We've got a couple of
printers, each attached to a specific computer. Those work locally and
shared.

I am now trying to use an HP 2600n, which has network capability. It
was originally installed from a computer at my boss's house. That
computer and printer are now here at the office, hooked into our
router. The printer is ONLY physically hooked into the router, there
are no USB or Parallel connections in use.

The printer worked fine from the "boss" computer. Then I use "add a
printer" on one of the other computers. It found the HP, but the
"path" contained the name of the "boss" computer. I've never used a
network printer before, but I expected it to show up as an independent
unit. Nonehtless, I told it to add that printer. It seemed to work,
but when I try to print to it, the command seems to go nowhere.
There's no error message, no print icon in the tray and no activity at
the printer.

If I make the HP the default printer on the remote computer everything
works perfectly. But that's a pain in the behind. Is there some other
way to fix it so it will work just as the temporarily "chosen"
printer, not the default?

Thanks in advance
