To support applications that need it. The Framework is like a Runtime, the
base code upon which the application functions.

The reason I ask was I am having trouble with the 1.1 update. I was
wondering if it was worth the trouble trying to fix it.
Thanks.

LOTS of people are having trouble with these latest updates (not me, knock
on wood...) I'd give the situation a bit of time to mature and then see what
people are saying about it in this NG (already several posts today.) But I
would eventually want the thing worked out, not try to get along without the
Frameworks or their updates. If you don't already have .Net apps running on
your system, you're likely to, sooner or later, and then you'll want things
in working order.
