Need to select myself on startup since installation of .NET

Since I installed .NET, I am now required to click on my name as part of the
booting process. My name is the only one there and I'm the only user on my
system. How can I circumvent this requirement? I'm running XP Pro.

Thanks much in advance.

Mike

Hi speedy_mike,

You could either follow the instructions here:

Skip the Welcome Screen and Logon Automatically
http://mvps.org/marksxp/WindowsXP/welskip.php

or

D/load and install TweakUI, open TweakUI and uncheck ASP.NET in the Login
section or tab (I don't use TweakUI, so I can't picture its interface in
order to tell you exactly where to find the Login section). TweakUI can be
d/loaded from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

Although I have never personally experienced a problem using the first
method I posted for you, one newgroup poster to whom I posted that fix stated
that he then found that his computer froze at the "Windows is starting up"
screen.

Hi Mike,

Start, Run, type control userpasswords2 and click OK. Under the Users
tab, uncheck "Users must enter a user name and password to use this
computer." Don't do anything else. Click OK and reboot.

Start | Run, type "control userpasswords2" Select the account you want to
logon to automatically. Then uncheck the box "Users must enter a user name
and password to use this computer."

Or do the same thing with TweakUI.

Bingo! The "Start | Run, type "control userpasswords2"" method did the
trick. Thank all of you!

Mike

Ooh! another chance to spam this:
http://xenomorph.net/xdntweaker/

installing .NET 1.x adds a hidden user "ASP.NET".

even though they are not displayed on the welcome screen, you still have to
chose your name.

my XdN Tweaker has an easy 1 button feature to disable the account (or
re-enable it)

there was a hotfix to .net 1.1 a long time ago that fixed this issue - run
winupdate, it should offer it to you.

as stated, the issue is the ASP.NET account created; the tweakui fix is
the most straight forward: uncheck "show ASPNET account on welcome
screen".
