I bought windows XP Pro standalone. I originally had Me... good switch. My
computer is going south for the winter and its been a while since I've
cleaned it out and formatted it. I put my XP disk in and it is all scratched
up. It's a legit copy. Is there any way Microsoft can send me another one,
or let me download it with SP2?

AND to keep all important discs (and copies) in sleeves or cases.

If the scratches are minor, and have not penetrated the substrate; a simple
warm water and dish detergent washing and rinsing may to the trick. Won't
wash away the blemishes, but may allow the CD to be read.

As noted earlier, make a copy if you get it working. Use the copy only.
Keep all your CDs in closed cases designed for them. Maintain a hand
written copy of all software keys in a spiral notebook. Maintain a hand
written copy of usernames/passwords in same spiral notebook. Keep the
spiral notebook away from prying eyes.
