How do i prevent a network computer running XP home to stop listing the
network shares in My network Places as it is slowing the machine to a halt -
i know in XP you can add the security feature but that is not avaialble in
home

If I understand your post correctly I think that you are looking for the
NoRecentDocsNetHood registry based policy:

XP home does not have policies as i attempted to create mmc group policy but
not available and option is not in registry- that is the problem!

Add the NoRecentDocsNetHood entry to the registry. Although Windows XP
Home doesn't have a GUI Group Policy snap-in tool it doesn't mean that
you can't apply any group policies to it, you just have to add them to
the registry. If the NoRecentDocsNetHood value is absent just create it.
