Maybe someone can take a look at this and perhaps tell me why my updates
keep failing...
This is a new system C2D e6400, 2gig pc6400 ram, windows xp pro SP3, office
2003 SBE.
Through all this mess of trying to update I have been able to manually
download and install office SP3 and silverlight( those failed automatically
prior).

Re: the windows log file, it is HUGE ( probably tried to run the updates 30
times in the last 36 hours) I copied the last part that was dated and timed
at the last attempt to install waiting updates( autoupdates on).
I was curious, cant I or should I delete the contents of that file and try
the updates again to re-propagate it?

any thoughts? I just tried to de/reregister the dlls from "method 4"
here..without success..http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822798/
not sure if I should just start at the beginning of that article and just
try all of them.
(should I turn off automatic updates when trying these fixes....and try
updating from windows update?)
I was curious, I installed SP3 for windows prior to installing the office
suite, could THAT be part of the issue? Can I remove SP3 and office then
reinstall office as a fix?

Thank you
Here is what I just saw...

Try method 1 and try to update*.
If fails - try method 2 and try to update*.

If both of those methods fail...
http://www.codeplex.com/aureset
Get the tool and run it and then try to update*.

*try to update:
- Visit http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/
- If it asks you to install anything before you see a selection of "Custom"
or "Express" - do so.
- Once you see the "Custom" or "Express" selection, choose "Custom".
- Scan for updates.
- When it lists what it finds - install the critical ones.
- You are generally safe doing the Optional Software Updates. I suggest
avoiding the Optional Hardware Updates completely.

SUCCESS !
Thank you, can you explain what was happening and why the fix you provided
worked?
