Multiple sessions for adminstrator

Hello,

Our client is using Windows Server 2003 executed in a VMWare environment
(single server). Administrator is connecting to Windows server 2003
application through a RDESKTOP connection. using Terminal Services. The
Administrator initiates multiple sessions to use an application. Is it
correct that no additional CALs are needed for this specific administrator
purpose?
The other 20 clients are connecting with TS Device CALs and Windows Device
CALs.

I do not know of any impact use of VMWare would have on this issue.

If "multiple" means two - yes that is true. If it means more than two -
something else.

You can have two simultaneous administrative sessions without anything
other than the server software and its own license.

We are using VMware to use windows server 2003 on a Linux server.
I think the main issue is how many terminal services sessions one user
(administrator) is allowed to start, the application that is used can
initiate multiple sessions. It is one user (one device too) which is starting
the multiple sessions (more than 2). Is it allowed to start those multiple
sessions?

That is true is the server is configured for Remote Desktop for
Administration. Then you have a maximum of 2 (+ 1 console) session,
by default for Administrators only, without any additional
licensing requirements,
But it is clear that this server is configured as a Terminal
Server. That means that you loose the 2 free administrative
sessions, all sessions need a license, except a single session to
the console, which is always free of TS licenses.

Yes. I understand from your first post that the TS is configured in
the Per Device licensing mode, with Per Device TS CALs installed on
the TS Licensing Server.
A Device TS CAL gives any user the right to connect to any TS,
including multiple sessions.
You should be able to verify in the TS Licensing Manager that the
device has only been issued a single TS CAL.
