Seems like alot of people have this problem. It's been happening to me I think for the last month or so.

I'm using a pretty old and shaky Win XP Home.

I had Avast, and Comodo firewall, then about a year ago I uninstalled them ( used the uninstall utility I think) and installed MSE (and use windows firewall),
after getting BSOD help in this thread http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_xp-system/bsod-help-please/e9c32b57-9a60-44f6-b684-dd38fe182064
I flashed my bios and that solved my bsod issues.

Pretty sure this high cpu issue is fairly recent.

I tried this advice I found
  1. Now go to your Microsoft Security Essentials, click on the "Settings" tab. Select "Excluded files and locations"
  2. Browse to "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Security Client\MsMpEng.exe", Ok and press Add button to add the file to your list of excluded files and locations. Press Save changes button.

another thing I tried was doing a full scan, still have the problem.

I use spybot, malarebytes, spyware blaster, superantispyware, and have winpatrol.

last year I installed hard Drive Inspector Pro http://www.altrixsoft.com/en/hddinsp/ , other then that nothing has been added recently.

hope someone can help!
