mse will not complete full scan

This just started to happen but when I try to run a full scan it gets about half way through and stops and I get a warning that mse has turned off real time protection for some reason. So I click to turn it back on and of course the scan has ended. I can still run a quick scan. Any help, thanks, running windows 7
