Just make a list and reinstall them. It's generally not trivial to move
applications, as there are generally no reasonable ways to know where all
the files went or what all the registry entries are for them. If you have
the install media to hand, you'll be done in a couple of hours, most of it
waiting for installs to complete.. use this time for other tasks.

Apparently LapLink has a utility that they say can do this, but I've never
tried it.

Note this line: "You cannot select which individual programs or files you
would like to move to your PC. "

You that the installation CD, and stick it in the CD/DVD drive. Autorun
should fire off the setup program.

Some simpler programs can be transferred by just copying the EXE file,
whatever else is in its directory, and making a shortcut to the EXE
file. Irfanview is in this category, there are some others. Anything
of any complexity - and certainly any Microsoft app - will need to be
reinstalled on the new machine.

You can't. You can move data but not programs.

you can attempt a clone od the old HD to the NEW hd, but be prepared to
execute a repair install before you attempt a boot, and get a new copy of XP
unless you have the full retail version of XP

Best bet is to install the programs you want to use on the new PC.

Most applications cannot simply be "moved." There are generally
hundreds (maybe thousands) of necessary registry entries that will need
to be created, and dozens (maybe hundreds) of essential systems files
will need to be placed in the correct systems folders.

You'll need to use the original installation media (disks) to install
the applications on the new computer.
