Moving a program from one "instance" of XP to another

From all the post on the subject here, I think I already know the answer to
this question but here goes. I have been trying over the last few days to
install Flight Simulator X on my home C: drive. The installation works fine
up to the point I insert disk 2, then it hangs up. I have tried EVERYTHING
suggested including clean boots, attempting to install to another drive, and
installation under safe mode(which apparantly Installshield does not support,
at least for FSX). I am convinced there is a software conflict of some sort,
but I am at a lost as to what it may be. I have the usual virus programs
(Micro Trend) and other programs running in the background except during
install attempts. I had the same problem with loading SIMS Pets. I
eventually was able to load that in safe mode (go figure).

So my thought now is that I will need to install a "clean" version of XP on
my secondary drive and install FSX there. I'm guessing this will solve the
software conflict. My question is, will I have to live with booting to this
second instance of XP in order to play the game, or is there any (relatively
easy) way to have this install recognized by my first instance of XP and
allow me to delete the second instance of XP?

As I said before, I believe I already know the answer from similiar post,
but it doesn't hurt to ask. Thanks in advance!!

Run filemon and Regmon during the install, check for accedss denied.
