Dear All,

I want to move my terminal server licenses to a new server. We have a
windows 2003 domain.

Please advice on how this can be done.

Q: How do I move my TS licenses to a new TS Licensing Server?

A: Here are the steps to move your TS CALs from one TS Licensing
Server to another:

1. install the Terminal Server Licensing component on the new
server
2. activate the TS Licensing Server on the new server
3. install your TS CALs on the new server. Since licenses cannot be
installed more than once, you will have to call the Microsoft
Clearinghouse. They will re-issue your licenses for installation on
the new server.
* make sure that you have all the paperwork for the licenses at
hand (purchase contracts, licensing agreements, etc)
* start the Terminal Services Licensing tool, right-click the
server, choose Properties, choose "Telephone" on the "Connection
Metod" tab, choose your country or region, click "OK".
Right-click the server again, choose "Install licenses", click
"Next".
* call the regional Clearinghouse telephone number they will guide
you through the rest of the installation process
4. verify that your Terminal Server(s) can locate the new TS
Licensing Server
5. deactivate the TS Licensing Server on the old server an
uninstall it

I have setup the new TS license server and in the process of activating it
and installing the CAL pack.

Please confirm, if one de-activate the old TS Lic server before continue
with the process or not.

I finally completed the activation and generaion of the CAL ID pack on the
web.
I then input the the server ID which was accept but the wizard did not
accept the CAL ID pack. Also, the de-activate option on the two servers (old &
new TS Lic was greyed out)
Please can you outline the steps left with activating and transfering CAL ID
pack & the license role to the new server.

Thx in advance

I would certainly *not* deactivate the old server until you are
completely satisfied that the new server is activated, has your
licenses installed, can be located by your TS and is issueing
licenses. This is reflected in the sequence of actions in my
previous post.

And as I wrote, you need to call the Clearinghouse to guide you
through the installation of your TS CAL pack. If your licenses have
been used before (been installed on the old server), you cannot
install them on the new server without the assistance of the
Clearinghouse.
