mouse pad problems

i use a mouse pad and more and more frequently the cursor flies off to either
the top right hand corner or bottom left hand corner of the screen. I then
am unable to control it using the pad and it can move haphazardly accross the
top of the screen. I can sometimes control it using the navigating "stick"
which seems to stabilise the mouse.
 
Try a different pattern mouse pad.

I'm going to guess that the OP really means his/her touchpad and that
they have a laptop.

To the OP: If I guessed correctly -

1. Reinstall your touchpad drivers. Get them from the laptop mftr.'s
website for your specific model computer,
2, If that doesn't help, contact the laptop mftr.'s tech support for
repair/replacement because this may be hardware.

(Still to the OP) - If the above isn't applicable, then don't make us
