Missing sound events in 'Sound' Control Panel

A crashed hard dirve cased me to have to restore from an image after maxing several passes at wich check disk this was sucessfull for the most part.

Now the system has no items listed in the sound events eveen though some sound events are working.

the system is a windows 2000 profesional system

How do I restore the sound events.
