minecraft has a fatal error? im using windows 8

anytime that i launch the minecraft a error pops as i am running the launch. it says FATAL ERROR: java.lang.ExceptionInInitalizerError than has a list of things and at the end is says caused by: java.NullPointerException what would be causing this>
