Greetings Forum Folks,
I've just done an in-place online upgrade from Vista Home Premium SP1 x86 to Windows 8 Pro ($40...why not!?). The PC was having issues, so the steps I took are as follows:
It never completes...the progress bar just keeps rolling along forever. Same thing if I just start it from System and Security. Any ideas?

- Backed up user data ONLY (opted out of all of the settings since the PC was having issues) with WET
- Did a factory restore
- Uninstalled the 'crapware'
- Installed Microsoft Security Essentials
- Reloaded user data using WET
- Re-installed MS Office 2007 Enterprise using compatibility mode
- Tried to run Microsoft Update from within Microsoft Word...spin...spin...spin...spun...
